Sending Attachments with Claims

National Electronic Attachment (NEA) FastAttach lets you transmit attachments, in support of electronic claims, to payers over the Internet. You can send attachments such perio exams, X-rays, EOBs, etc.

Getting Started

This is how the FastAttach process works with ClaimConnect.

Open your ClaimConnect account on the EHG Web site (www.dentalxchange.com). See Electronic Claims.

Click the Account link at the top of the ClaimConnect page, then click the Change your Electronic Attachment Settings link. You will see the screen below.

Click the registration form link to view and print the NEA registration form. This saves you the normal $200 signup fee. The form should be sent directly to NEA.

You will receive an NEA account number (Facility ID). When you receive it, return to the EHG Web site, click the Account link at the top of the ClaimConnect page, click Change your Electronic Attachment Settings link. Enter your NEA Facility ID and activate the NEA edits (click Yes).

Send claims.

The claims are checked to see if that payer wants X-rays or other information for any of the procedures in the claim.

If so, the claim is held and notice is sent to the FastAttach system, and the status of the claim is marked as Attachment Request Sent.

As soon as the attachment is sent to FastAttach, it forwards the attachment reference number to ClaimConnect, who adds the reference number to the claim, and the claim is released to the payer. The status is then reset to Submitted and then to Received, etc., as additional updates are received from the payer.

info

If you send the attachment to FastAttach first and put the NEA# in the Remarks box (box 35 of the ADA 2003 form), the attachment and reference number are sent directly through without any intervention. It is important that you enter the reference number exactly as instructed by NEA (NEA#xxxxxxxx where the x's indicate the attachment number). You must not have any spaces or other characters in between and the reference number must be the first thing entered in the remarks area. Other comments can follow; however, the NEA reference number must be first.
